Learn French in a supportive and engaging group environment at Alliance Française de Lafayette. Our group courses are designed for learners of all levels, combining expert instruction with interactive conversation and cultural discovery. Whether you are just beginning your French journey or looking to strengthen existing skills, our group classes are designed to help you build confidence and progress at your own pace. Along the way, you’ll connect with fellow learners who share your passion for the French language and francophone culture, creating a welcoming and enriching community experience that goes beyond the classroom.

Most Classes will be held online.

Each session includes 8h of courses - Membership required for all classes.

Unless otherwise specified in description, all of our classes are aimed for adults.

A2 Standard Beginners 2

Standard Courses
Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

B1 - Intermediate

B1 Standard Intermediate 1 Fall 2026

Standard Courses
Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar, or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

B2 - Intermediate 2

B2 - Intermediate 2 - Standard Fall 2026

Standard Courses
Students are able to communicate with a degree of spontaneity and ease so that a conversation with a native speaker does not involve tension for either party.

Standard French - Intermediate 2 - French through reading Louisiana Literature

Standard Courses
This class is designed for people wanting to attain a B2 level in standard French, and for speakers of Louisiana French who want to explore Louisiana literature. Focus on expanding speaking and grammar skills by reading French stories written by Louisianans.


Pace: 1hr per week over 8 weeks
C1 - Advanced

C1 Standard Advanced 1 Fall 2026

Standard Courses
This class is designed for students who want to attain an advanced level of standard French. Students will develop greater fluency and confidence by expressing themselves spontaneously and naturally in social, professional, and academic situations without any apparent difficulty in finding the right words.

Kouri Vini (Louisiana Creole)

Beginner Kouri Vini - with Herbert J. Wiltz

Louisiana Creole

During this beginner-level course, students will be exposed to an orthography used in Kouri-Vini. They will learn vocabulary associated with various themes, practice common expressions and everyday phrases that are essential for daily interactions. Students will develop the ability to introduce themselves and others, ask and answer basic questions, and engage in simple conversations with growing confidence. The course provides a strong foundation in both spoken and written Kouri-Vini through a clear, communicative approach that emphasizes practical language use in real-life situations.

Intermediate Kouri Vini - with Herbert J. Wiltz

Louisiana Creole

The intermediate-level course builds upon the foundation established in Kouri-Vini 101, with a continued expansion of language skills and cultural knowledge.  Students will develop vocabulary across a variety of thematic areas and strengthen their use of common expressions and everyday phrases essential for daily interactions.

In addition, students will explore examples of Louisiana literature through stories, songs, and poems.  Engagement with these cultural texts will further enhance their speaking abilities, listening comprehension, and overall understanding of the language.

Louisiana French (Cajun French)

Beginner Louisiana French - with Elaine Clement

Cajun French
The LouisianaBeginner’s French class will provide you with the tools to have basic conversations intertwined with learning about the Louisiana French cultures.  Learn how to introduce yourself, have conversations about your family, your interests, nature, etc.   Learn how to use the French you already know and music to expand your language learning.

Intermediate Louisiana French - with Elaine Clement

Cajun French
The Louisiana Intermediate French class will increase your conversational and reading skills using music and the stories of native speakers, written pieces and videos.   You will learn about French vocabulary native to Louisiana.   This course will also provide you with tools to continue your learning adventure.
