Course Description

Kouri-Vini or Louisiana Creole, is the creole language that emerged in colonial Louisiana. This course is designed for anyone who has an interest in the language.

Kouri-Vini (Louisiana Creole) is one of the most fascinating pieces of Louisiana’s linguistic diversity. The language developed in the colonial era and bears influences from French, Native American and African languages, Spanish, and even English.

The Kouri-Vini advanced level will be focused on conversational practice with some ongoing exploration of Kouri-Vini literature, giving students an opportunity to develop their own creative writing texts in the language. So it will be very practice oriented and an outreach to people interested in making their own contribution to increasing the literary output.

Note: this is an adult only class.
